Fit Guide

Find Your Strap Size

Three numbers make a strap fit: your lug width, your buckle width and your strap length. Each Justvero strap is cut to order from these numbers. This guide walks you through each one in a few minutes. Not sure about any of them? Tell us your watch and we'll check before we cut.

At a glance

  • 18–22 mmThe lug width of most watches
  • Whole mmLug widths are almost never fractional
  • 20 / 18Lug width / buckle width: the usual way strap sizes are written
  • 16–18 cmWhere most wrists fall (115/70 to 125/75 mm)

Step 1

What Is Lug Width?

Lug width is the gap between the two lugs of your watch case. The lugs are the small arms that hold the strap. It is measured in millimetres, straight across the space where the strap sits.

This is the one number that has to match exactly. A strap that is too narrow shifts between the lugs and leaves a visible gap. A strap that is too wide will not fit between them at all.

Three Ways to Find It

  1. Check your current strap

Turn your strap over. The size is often stamped on the lining near the lug end, as a single number like "20" or as a pair like "20-18". The first number is your lug width.

  2. Look up your watch

Search your watch brand and model plus "lug width". Manufacturer pages and watch databases usually list it in the specifications.

  3. Ask us

Turn on "Add your watch details for a precise fit" in the configurator and enter your watch brand and model, or email cs@justvero.com. We confirm the lug width before we cut your strap. There is no charge for this.

Measure It Yourself

  1. Lay the watch face-up

Place your watch on a flat surface. The strap can stay on, but removing it gives a clearer view of the lugs.

  2. Place a ruler across the lugs

Lay a millimetre ruler or caliper across the gap, close to the case, where the strap meets the watch.

  3. A digital caliper held across the lugs of a watch, reading the gap between the inner edges

Read inner edge to inner edge

The distance between the inner edges of the lugs is your lug width. Round to the nearest whole millimetre: 19.7 mm is a 20. If you're unsure, measure again in good light or send us a photo.

Three Common Mistakes

Case size is not lug width. A "40 mm watch" means the case diameter. The lug width is a separate, smaller number, usually around half the case size.

Measure the inner edges. Measuring from the outer edges of the lugs adds a few millimetres.

Lug-to-lug is a different measurement. Lug-to-lug is the length from the tip of the top lugs to the tip of the bottom lugs. It tells you how a watch sits on the wrist, not how wide the strap should be.

Widths we make: every whole millimetre from 12 to 24 mm. Watch outside this range? Email cs@justvero.com before ordering.

Step 2

Taper and Buckle Width

Most leather straps get narrower from the watch toward the buckle. This narrowing is called the taper. Strap sizes are usually written as two numbers: 20 / 18 mm means 20 mm at the watch and 18 mm at the buckle.

Only the first number has to match your watch. The second number, your buckle width, is a style choice. A strap with more taper looks lighter and dressier. A straight strap looks bolder and sportier.

Every Justvero strap comes with a buckle sized to the buckle width you choose. So you don't need to measure a buckle unless you plan to use your own.

Choose Your Taper

Once you pick your lug width, the configurator shows up to three taper choices with their exact millimetres, and pre-selects the most popular one (marked with a star). Tap another to change it.

TaperBuckle endExample on a 20 mm watchLooks best with
StraightSame width as the lug end20 → 20 mmLarger, sporty and tool watches
ClassicUp to 2 mm narrower20 → 18 mmMost watches: the traditional proportion
SlimMore than 2 mm narrower20 → 16 mmDress and smaller watches; a lighter, tapered look

Buckle widths run from 10 to 22 mm and are never wider than the lug. So 14–22 mm lugs show all three choices; 12–13 mm lugs have no Slim option, and 23–24 mm lugs have no Straight option. Want a different buckle width? Tap "Other width".

Using Your Own Buckle or Deployant?

If you want to reuse a buckle or deployant clasp you already have, the strap's buckle width must match it. Measure across the inside of the buckle frame, where the strap passes through, in millimetres. Choose that number with "Other width" (it must be no wider than your lug width), then turn on Watch details and tell us you're keeping your own buckle.

Step 3

Strap Length

A two-piece strap has a long side, which has the adjustment holes, and a short side, which carries the buckle. Lengths are written long / short. For example, 115 / 70 mm is a 115 mm long side and a 70 mm short side. Both are measured without the buckle.

The easiest way to choose is to measure your wrist and use the chart below.

Two Ways to Find Your Length

  1. Measure your wrist

Wrap a soft tape measure, or a strip of paper you then lay against a ruler, around your wrist just above the wrist bone, where you wear your watch. Keep it snug against the skin but not tight. The chart already allows for a comfortable fit. Measuring in inches? Multiply by 2.54.

  2. Or measure a strap that fits

If you already have a strap that fits well, lay it flat. Measure the long side from the lug end to the tip, then measure the short side from the lug end to where the buckle attaches, without the buckle. In the configurator, choose Custom length and enter both numbers.

Size Chart

Find your wrist size, rounded to the nearest centimetre. In the configurator these appear under "Length — by wrist size".

Fine-Tuning Your Length

Between two sizes? Choose the larger one, or enter a custom length.

Large or thick watch (around 44 mm and up)? The case covers more of your wrist, so consider one size shorter.

Like a looser fit? Go one size longer.

Still unsure? Turn on "Add your watch details for a precise fit", write your wrist size in Model / Notes, and we'll check the length before we cut.

Straight or Curved End?

The straight end is the standard. It fits every watch and leaves a small gap where a rounded case meets the strap.

A curved end (+$12) is cut to follow the curve of your watch case, so the strap sits flush with no gap. It is made for a specific case shape, so please add your watch brand and model, and a photo if you can. If you're not sure, keep Straight and tell us your watch. We'll advise before we cut.

Common Questions

Do you make odd widths like 19 or 21 mm?

Yes. Many watches, especially vintage pieces, use odd widths. Every whole millimetre from 12 to 24 mm is in the list and made with the same care.

My watch measures about 19.5 mm. What should I order?

Measure again from inner edge to inner edge, close to the case. It is almost certainly a whole number. If you're still unsure, send us your watch model or a photo and we'll confirm.

Do I measure at the top or the bottom of the lugs?

On almost every watch the gap is the same all the way down. Measure close to the case, where the strap actually sits.

I don't have a caliper. Is a ruler accurate enough?

Yes. Lug widths are whole millimetres, so a ruler read carefully at the inner edges is enough.

Does the strap come with a buckle and spring bars?

Yes. Every strap includes a buckle sized to your buckle width and quick-release spring bars fitted to the strap, so you can change straps without tools.

I'm between two wrist sizes.

Choose the larger size, or select Custom length and enter your exact long and short lengths.

Can you make a size that isn't listed?

For length, yes: choose Custom length and enter your long and short sides in millimetres. For buckle width, use "Other width". For a lug width outside 12–24 mm, email cs@justvero.com before ordering.

Can you check my sizes before you make the strap?

Yes. Turn on "Add your watch details for a precise fit" in the configurator and enter your watch brand and model. A photo is optional. We review the fit before cutting. You can also email cs@justvero.com.
